Carry On Tuesday Plus # 171

“Once upon a time” is thought to be English expression and the earliest known example of its use is in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales of 1385.

Charles Dickens also used it in A Christmas Carol, “Once upon a time old Scrooge sat busy in his counting house”.

Nowadays we mainly associate it with fairy stories.
